|"Success is not measured by the position one has reached in life, rather by the obstacles overcome while trying to succeed." Booker T. Washington.
Since recently moving to Los Angeles to pursue her acting, Candace has appeared on NBC's "Joey", Fox's "Method and Red", HBO's "Entourage", Spike TV's "The John Henson Project" and CBS as a Barker's Beauty on "The Price Is Right". But it wasn't that long ago that this stunning and charismatic woman was practicing corporate real estate law while juggling charitable duties as Miss Ohio USA 2003.
Candace was raised by a single mother in the inner-city of Dayton, Ohio. As the oldest of twelve children, Candace's mother never had the opportunity to pursue her own academic ambitions. She would encourage Candace to excel academically and it would be Candace's deceased father who would provide her with a strong foundation of discipline and the financial support to attend private school.
Candace understood the value of education and worked hard to receive a full academic scholarship to the University of Dayton, becoming the first in her family to graduate from college. Her mother's influence was so strong so that Candace would go on to graduate from Northwestern University School of Law and was admitted to practice law by the Ohio Supreme Court. Yet, Candace had no desire to be a lawyer and it was her need to express herself as an actor and writer that truly drove her.
Candace was a performer in every sense of the word. By the age of three she was performing ballet, tap and jazz in dance recitals. It wasn't long before Candace's mother recognized her passion and enrolled her in acting classes at the Dayton Playhouse. She participated in community projects and relished in the role of Titania in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" while in junior high. During high school she refocused her attention on sports and academics in order to receive a scholarship to college. She also began modeling part-time to earn spending money. This overachiever excelled as a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Theatre, Student Council, Varsity Track, Varsity Basketball and as Captain of the Varsity Soccer Team.
While attending the University of Dayton on a full academic scholarship, Candace felt the need to broaden her horizons. She applied and received a merit scholarship to study media and communications for a summer at the University of London. It was there that Candace's love for theatre intensified as she spent countless hours on the West End. Candace returned from London and graduated from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Communications. At the urging of her mother, Candace went on to attend law school at Northwestern University School of Law on a merit scholarship.
Although Candace longed to pursue her acting, she immersed herself in the experience at Northwestern University. She volunteered for an outreach program in the juvenile detention center and traveled to Cuba as a group leader for a research project. Meanwhile she continued to cultivate her loves by studying in the evening at Act One Studios in Chicago and writing personal essays in her spare time. It was during her third year of law school that Candace vowed to complete her law school education and then work as a lawyer to save money for her eventual move to Los Angeles. Upon graduation, Candace returned to Ohio and practiced corporate real estate law for the largest law firm in Ohio. It was while working as a full-time attorney that Candace won the title of Miss Ohio USA 2003. As Miss Ohio USA, she dedicated her time to several charities and continued to work full-time as an attorney. Once she concluded her duties as Miss Ohio USA, she packed up and drove to Los Angeles.
There is a buzz about Candace and it is justified. She is a multi-dimensional individual who constantly seeks growth. Candace has fully committed herself to studying her craft and writing. She also continues to appear in national print ads, commercials and music videos. Candace is an emerging actress and writer who will continue to go above and beyond.
